the toilet.

Health and Hygiene

Picture
The flush toilet performs one basic function which is often taken for granted—the prevention of human contact from human excretion.

The toilet has made homes, towns and cities cleaner places to live in, not to mention its success in containing odours and in providing labour-free waste removal. More importantly, it has curbed the spread of many highly-contagious diseases.

What is often overlooked is the flush toilet’s fundamental role in the development of urban centers around the world, by providing a means of maintaining sanitation in densely populated areas.

The modern flush toilet is also a fundamental part of the sanitation system, which was voted as the greatest medical milestone since 1840, according to a poll conducted by the British Medical Journal in 2007.
